Robert H. Jones, Ph.D.

Robert H. Jones, Ph.D., currently serves as Clemson University’s Interim President. Previously, Dr. Jones served as Clemson University’s first Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, providing leadership for the university’s undergraduate and graduate programs, academic support programs, research, and public service activities.  He earned a B.S. in Forest Management (1979), an M.S. in Forestry (1981) from Clemson University, and a Ph.D. in Forest Ecology (1986) from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. After a postdoc at the University of Georgia’s Savannah River Ecology Laboratory, he joined the School of Forestry at Auburn University, and then moved to Virginia Tech in 1995, becoming head of the Department of Biological Sciences in 2002.  He was Dean of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University for four years before joining Clemson as the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost in 2014.
