The South Carolina Medical Device Alliance (MDA) transforms how the state is inventing, advancing, and bringing medical devices to market to address unmet clinical needs. This multi-stakeholder partnership is the foundation of a regional innovation cluster to grow the economic impact through job creation and startup formation, as well as to attract international businesses. The MDA advances technologies to market with multidisciplinary teams and launches startups that have been rigorously evaluated by seasoned industry experts.
Bioengineering students engage clinical innovators to identify, develop, and solve critical clinical problems and advance those solutions towards commercialization. Industry provides feedback regarding commercial viability of the project.
SCRA develops product profiles of the top projects to include regulatory assessments and a comprehensive market analysis. The product profiles are provided to the advisory panel, comprised of industry experts, who recommend projects to advance to Phase 3.
Multi-disciplinary teams are formed to de-risk innovations from both a technical and commercial perspective. Funding supports Fellowships, technology development and a Professor of Practice to create the foundation for a potential startup.
