Grantee: Clemson University
Principal Investigator: Jianhua (Joshua) Tong, Ph.D.
SCRA awarded Clemson University $860,000. Clemson has $170,000 in matching funds for a total of one million dollars in funding to develop a highly compacted hydrogen fuel cell prototype that is longer lasting and more energy efficient than what is currently available. They are also designed to be incorporated into existing equipment, eliminating the need for costly retrofitting. Midlands Technical College and Florence-Darlington Technical College’s Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing Technology are working with Clemson on the project. The industry partner is Infintium, Inc. of Greer, SC.
“This SCRA Grant initiated the opportunity to create a public-private partnership between Clemson University, Florence Darlington Technical College, Midlands Technical College, and Infinium, a private company in Greer, SC. The proximate result will provide a cutting-edge energy product benefiting South Carolina and the global alternative energy market. The Clemson University Research Foundation is excited to participate in this high-impact collaboration made possible by the SCRA.” – Chris Gesswein, Executive Director, CURF
