Few issues confronting the nation and the world today have as many different constituency stakeholders as do the family of alternative and renewable energy technologies. Whether focused on decreasing U.S. dependency on foreign sources of petroleum, controlling the man-made contribution to global climate change, minimizing the public health impact of air and water pollution caused by the combustion of fossil energy or promoting economic growth built around emerging technologies, there seems to be something for everyone in alternative energy. SCRA's Support in Clean Energy Initiatives SCRA is supporting clean energy initiatives throughout South Carolina and beyond in several ways:
BoroScience mines $123K from SCRA's SC Launch! BoroScience International, a Columbia, SC-based company that makes solid-source boron-based compounds, is getting a $123,000 investment from SCRA’s SC Launch! The company’s technology has potential advanced fuel cell uses. Bill Mahoney, SCRA CEO, said, “Their partnership with USC and the recognition they’ve received from the Fuel Cell Collaborative provides a strong example of how collaboration strengthens the knowledge economy of South Carolina,” he said. USC Columbia Fuel Cell Collaborative Announces Greater Columbia Fuel Cell Challenge Phase II Awards The USC Columbia Fuel Cell Collaborative announced the Greater Columbia Fuel Cell Challenge Phase II Awards at the 2008 National Hydrogen Association Conference in Sacramento, California. The challenge, organized by the University of South Carolina (USC), the City of Columbia, the South Carolina Research Authority (SCRA), and EngenuitySC, was created in 2006 as an initiative to collaborate with private sector leaders from all areas of the fuel cell market for the unprecedented deployment of fuel cell and alternative energy technologies into multiple city, university and public applications in Columbia. |
